Retinal detachment classically presents with a field defect, a curtain over the field of vision. It starts in one quadrant and slowly progresses to involve the entire visual field if untreated. Inferior retinal detachment causes superior visual field defect whereas superior retinal detachment causes inferior visual field defect.
